Panama’s geographic location along with the Panama Canal make it one of the best countries
on the American continent to visit, shop, and to hold business meetings and conventions.
Since Panama is a free port, visitors will find all manner of products, including jewelry,
precious stones, oriental art, watches, photographic equipment, electronics, home appliances,
glassware, pottery and much more at highly attractive prices.  Vía España and Avenida
Central in Panama City, Panama are the main shopping avenues.  Here tourists will find all
types of shops, from high fashion clothing stores to beautiful craft shops.

The craft stores offer a variety of straw and wood products, as well as needlework,
paintings, and the beautiful and well-known Molas (blouse panels used by women in their
traditional dress and sold as crafts), which are handmade by Kuna Indians. Most of the
shops are open from 9:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday and many are open
Sundays. Panama has large, modern shopping centers with a wide variety of stores that will
please even the most discriminating buyer.

Panama, the Ideal Setting for Business Meetings

Panama City’s convention center, ATLAPA, is the largest convention center in Central
America.  It is a five hectare, 71,331 square meter complex that includes a theater/auditorium
with a capacity of 3,000, a 34,445 square foot or 3,200 square meter exhibit hall, conference
rooms, simultaneous interpreting equipment and all the necessary sound, lighting and audio-
visual equipment. Panama City and the rest of the country have a variety of modern, five-star
hotels that provide high-tech facilities for conventions and meetings.
The synergy created between the Colón Free Trade Zone, the international banking center, a
modern transportation system that includes privatized ports on the Tran isthmus railway,
highways and the Panama Canal at the center of the world’s principal trade routes, has
contributed enormously to the country’s development.

The dollarized economy, along with investment incentives, labor and tourism laws,
reforestation and export processing zones make Panama an ideal country for private
investment.  These export-processing zones include industrial parks, techno parks, training
centers and related activities all along the interoceanic throughway, where dozens of domestic
and international companies have established their operations and their connection to world
markets.
Panama is a cosmopolitan center that offers all manner of amenities and modern
infrastructure.  The use of the Dollar, the availability of over 150 international banks with local
branches and the prevalence of English as a widely spoken language make Panama the ideal
site to do business, hold conventions, or simply go shopping.
